About-KDF

The Korea Democracy Foundation(KDF) was established to contribute to the development of democracy by carrying out projects to memorialize the democratization movement and inherit its spirit in accordance with the Korea Democracy Foundation Act(Act 6495) passed into legislation on June 28, 2001.

The KDF carries out support projects and arranges events to develop democracy movement, such as the establishment and operation of the National Museum Of Korean Democracy.

It also collects, digitizes, manages, and researches documents for the historical organization of the democratization movement as well as the democratization movement artifacts preservation, management and publication.

A project has been undertaken to convert the former Anticommunist Office of the National Police Agency in Namyeong-dong, Seoul, the notorious symbol of state violence during the military dictatorship, into the “National Museum of Democracy and Human Rights”.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held in the 34th year of June 10 Democratization Movement, and the project will be brought to an end with official opening of the Hall in 2024.

In addition, since January 2023, KDF has been in charge of consignment management of the "National Museum of Korean Democracy" in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, and operating graveyard management, memorial services, exhibitions and educational programs.
