Korea Democracy Foundation

In June 2016, the ,Korea Democratization Movement Memorial Park’ opened in Icheon (Gyeonggi-do). It was created to build a democratic society by looking back at the history of the Democracy Movement and honoring and inheriting the noble will of the martyrs.

On January 12, 2001, as a commemoration business of the Pro-democracy Movement, it was decided to create a Democracy Park under article 23 ‘Act on the Restoration of Honor and Compensation, etc. of Persons Related to the Democratic Movement’ to commemorate the patriotic martyrs for democracy and inherit the ideology of the Democracy Movement.

The Korea Democratization Movement Memorial Park is a venue for democratic history education, producing and displaying content that can show the objective facts and history of the Democracy Movement in Korea.

The main facilities include the Korea Democratization Movement Memorial Hall(exhibition room), the Martyr's Graveyard, the Citizen's Square, the Portrait Enshrinement Hall, the Sound Wall of Democracy, and the Citizen's Park.

The Korea Democratization Movement Memorial Hall (exhibition room) is designed as an exhibition space to commemorate the sacrifices made of the martyrs for democratization and to understand their lives. It consists of two exhibition rooms, one basement floor and one ground floor, and exhibits historical materials of the Korean Democracy Movement.

The martyrs, who sacrificed their lives to make the flower of democracy in our country bloom, lie at rest in the Martyrs’ Grave.

The Korea Democratization Movement Memorial Park, where the historicity of Korea's Democratization Movement is alive, was created to commemorate the victims of the Pro-democracy Movement. It is a place to be used to educate young people about democracy and is designed as a new historic park for citizens.

The KDF was entrusted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for operation of the Korea Democratization Memorial Park in January 2023.
